Our Sustainability Strategy for 2026-2030 builds on what we've learned and achieved over

the last five years, despite challenging times during COVID, and sets out what we aim to do over the next five years. It addresses the key aspects of our environmental and community impacts and how we will build on the progress we’ve made and tackle the new challenges, and opportunities, that we can see ahead of us. It outlines the airport’s Sustainability vision: to maximise the economic and social benefits the Airport brings to our region and mitigate our impact on our neighbours and the global environment.

Here you can find the supporting policies and plans which underpin the strategy and the Sustainability Strategy document itself, which details our actions and future plans under the following ten strategic themes - Climate Change Mitigation, Climate Change Adaptation, Air Quality And Emissions, Waste Management, Water And Effluents, Biodiversity, Noise, Quality Of Life Of Local Communities, Economic Impact and Sustainable Supply Chain.

Environmental Management System

Birmingham Airport operates an Environmental Management System (EMS) which is aligned to the 14001 International Standard. This EMS is essential in allowing us to manage our environmental risks appropriately and minimise harm to the surrounding environment.

We outline our commitments to reducing our environmental impacts through our Sustainability Statement of Intent. This policy is communicated to all employees, tenants and contractors on-site and is reviewed annually and updated as necessary. The EMS aims to support and deliver the principals within our policy through the identification, documentation and review of all significant environmental impacts associated with our activities and services, allowing continual improvement.
